HEXAGONAL HOME - MLS #24222
$625,000.00 USD
This house is a joy to live in. We love the open spacious design, abundance of light which plants thrive on, and the flowing energy afforded by the hexagonal shape. It has all the elements of earth, air, fire and water, a peaceful bubble that makes you want to stay at home. The radiant floors are a lovely kind of clean heat and you can also use passive solar heat from the windows before and after the normal winter heating season. Since the house is earth-bermed, the back rooms maintain a constant temperature and having glass block and glass doors in them, you can see through and across the house to the outside and still have lots of light inside.
We love the kitchen, lots of cabinets, the walk-in pantry and flowing design, great for family and entertaining. It's so nice to have the large windows looking out into the yard and pond from the kitchen as well as the dining and living areas. There is so much wildlife to watch and beautiful sunsets reflecting off the water.
The plants absolutely thrive, in the sun space, we've had a blooming hibiscus for years.
Its fun to watch the stars from the hot tub at night, and it's so nice to have a shower in there.
The studio is a dream; totally private, views of the mountains, and secluded deck
This house lends itself to some self sufficiency. Water is pumped up to an underground reservoir above the house and gravity flows back down, so you have at least some supply available. There's a diesel generator for emergency power, and a root cellar for putting up all the garden produce.
There are so many things you can do here for fun. The yard is park-like with the lawn, landscaping, and pond, and a fun place for the gardener. You can float around on the pond on a hot day, and go cross-country skiing out your door in the winter. There's downhill skiing not too far away at Red Mountain in Canada, boating and fishing in the Columbia, and our wonderful local Onion Creek School.
AMENITIES
This is a structurally engineered, hexagonal, two-story, earth-bermed home. Enter the house from the tunnel entry and be greeted with a central atrium design flooded with light from the skylight above and large windows in front. With the use of glass doors, windows, skylights, and glass block, the overall concept of this house is such that even though it is built into the earth, each room has natural light and/or a view. Ceilings are open beam with the use of large timbers, and all rooms radiate around the central atrium core. Floors are Kiefer quarry stone, porcelain tile, and carpet. Main living areas have radiant hot water heat.
